Friends Forever

 We have been coming to le Marche for over 20 years. It is beautiful, with its sea and mountains and in between  medieval villages and checkerboard farmland.

Not only have we gotten to know the area with its winding roads and autostrada, but also have made many friends that will stay in our hearts forever.



Caterina, a special person, who made us meals, made us laugh and recently made us cry with her untimely passing was someone who is still with us deep in our hearts. Her husband, Andrea, whom we only knew briefly was at Puerto Banana this summer making the gelato. He gave me this picture of Caterina. 

The ladies of Puerto Banana, led by the beautiful and welcoming Cinzia, always made us feel welcome and cared for.


I would talk to them at length, especially Elisabetta. We got to know Chiara who would cook for us.


On our last days there she made us pasta. A new friend, Sveva, is studying to be a lawyer and Caterina's niece, Marika is now a Facebook friend.

Speaking of Facebook, a nice lady who runs a charming country house near Porto San Giorgio, has been to the beach and I run into her because of her postings. Fabrizia is a lovely name. 


Over the past few years, every time we would come to the beach, Freddy the umbrella and lounger guy,


would get us great views and usually next to our friends Peter and Cheryl and their son, Gavin.

Years ago, we stayed with a young couple at their home, Azzura and Antonio. I remember their dogs well. They are hard workers in their chosen fields.

Other people in our Le Marche lives are Andrea and Franscesca, hard working and energetic young people. Andrea had Lynda and I help one fall with the wine harvest along with his parents, Sergio and Rosanna. We love our dinners and talks.


A few years ago we stayed across from this lovely couple, Bruno and Loredana, who quickly became great friends. Lory, in her retirement has become a talented artist and Bruno is such an easy going man.


Speaking of artists, our dear Judith Offord, a master of water colours, who is world renowned for her masterpieces, has been a special friend.


There would be no completion to this list without our longest friends here,  Michael and Liliana.


We have known them since they got married. Michael is a talented artist and Liliana a very good realtor. They are part of the reason we fell in love with Le Marche in the first place. They have introduced us to many new friends from many other countries over the years.

All of these people, now that we have made an exit for probably the last time, have made our time here a remarkable experience and we love everyone of you. You are our Italian family. Forever Friends. Grazie mille.

      After 55 years of marriage and over thirty trips to Italy, this will be our last time to cross the pond. Since 1971 we have traveled to Europe. In 1971we were just kids, in our early 20s. Wheelchair Bingo and a Lovely Tuscan View

  Since many of my viewing audience are of the geriatric persuasion, I thought you might be interested in what happens in three different countries when you order a wheelchair for your flights. Since Lynda has her 'walking' condition, I felt it would be easier for her to be wheeled around instead of walking with a cane all of the time. In the Austin airport one has to wait in your carrier's area for someone to come and get you. That took about twenty minutes. However that time was made up by your airport attendant being able to scoot you through the lines at Pre-check. Even the wheelchair and Lynda’s cane had to go through. They then moved us quickly to our gate, #2, at the far end of the airport. All the time I was rushing behind this speedster as I brought my suitcase and my backpack.  The Austin experience was good. The Montreal one was even better as the nice gentleman, Khalil, who spoke four languages, took us some back way through customs while about a thousand or so ...

The AutoGrille: an Italian Experience

 If you drive in Italy, especially on the Autostrada, you must experience the thrill of the AutoGrille. It is much like a Buckees in Texas.  We pulled into one on Wednesday, needing to pee and also to get some traveling food. The freeway was crowded as everyone was returning from their August vacations.  The AutoGrille was no exception as we were able to get the last available parking spot.  Outside people were standing by their cars, eating homemade food and washing it down with who knows what. Italian hands were flying everywhere as they communicated with each other. A group of older Karate folks piled out of a van near us and began to eat at the picnic tables nearby. We went in. First stop, the toilette. Relief taking over, we went to do our shopping.  The Ristorante part was full so we picked up some panini, chocolate, fantas and Pringles.
